About KARE
KARE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to educating community members about the environmental and social benefits that come from responsible management of our natural resources on both public and private lands. Our purpose is to inform and educate the public by providing science-based information regarding forest eco-systems, responsible management of our forests, and the benefits of forest resources to our communities.
Our History
Klamath Alliance for Resources and Environment, affectionately known as KARE, has been promoting a balance between industry and the environment since 1986.
KARE is most noted for our Legislative Woods Tours, which we have been hosting in Siskiyou County since the late 1980's. These tours host Congressmen and State Legislators and have included such notables as former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert and Tom Delay as well as notables at the state level such as Assemblywomen Fiona Ma and Brian Dahle.
KARE is also proud to host an annual local leadership tour, which invites local community members to tour our public and private timberlands, and Siskiyou County mills. We also put on School tours that are tailored for Fifth through twelfth grade students.
Our tours highlight the need for improving forest health, reducing the risk of catastrophic wildfire, and demonstrating sustainable management of public and private forests for wood products all while providing key habitat for wildlife and fishery resources.
